"I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me." —Psalm 16:7 (ESV)
Every day runs its course, and all tasks but one must come to an end: to search God and know Him. Of this there can be no end.
In these 365 daily reflections on the wonder of God and the way of His Word, Tozer prompts us to seek God earnestly and love Him with our whole heart. Known for his steadfast devotion and incisive ponderings upon the Christian life, A. W. Tozer is a wise and trustworthy counselor.
As the daylight dims and the night winds down, let Evenings with Tozer rest your heart in God's eternal wisdom.
"Tozer is one of the great Christian writers of this century. Reading him is like drinking at an oasis in the desert."
—Dr. J. I. Packer, Regent College, Vancouver, Canada
Ecclesiastes 1:9 (KJV)
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Tozer’s writings are as relevant today as they were decades ago when he wrote them. Taken from books and sermons and other writings of his, these 366 Devotional Readings are meant to be a complement to personal Bible study time and I have to say they are thought provoking!
In one of the readings, Tozer speaks of our devotional life being crowded out by busyness and modern technologies. Sound familiar? He was referring to radio and television but I can only imagine how he would feel with the distractions of tablets, phones, computers, and hand held games that we have in the 21st century. Rarely do I see families eating at a table in a restaurant without one or all of them staring at their individual electronic devices while silence reigns between them. I am guilty of this myself!
I have been re-energized by this devotional. My copy already has many passages highlighted. Tozer was a studied man, devoted to prayer, and a highly respected ‘modern day’ theologian for his time. I highly recommend adding Evenings with Tozer to your daily repertoire of study materials.
So after my initial excitement over finding Mornings with Tozer when I then saw Evenings with Tozer everything just felt complete. Yes, I’m a booknerd, yes I love a pretty cover, and yes Tozer is one of my all time faves. A perfect complement to Mornings when you’re winding down after a long, sometimes hard, day at work this is just the thing to remind me that we’re not alone in this thing called life. I will say if you’re looking for Tozer’s customary “deep” works, these devotionals are a little bit more light, but then they ARE devotionals, which I feel are marketed towards people who have just enough time to get that daily entry in before heading off to work or ending their day. They’re perfect in that respect. Well worth the read in either case. An easy five stars!
“I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.” ~Psalm16:7
Evenings With Tozer, by A. W. Tozer, contains 366 daily, simple, one-page devotions that are powerful and meaningful.
What a lovely way to end each day—in devotional readings that guide us in our Christian life and ultimately bring us closer to God. Though the author died in the early sixties, his teachings are still timely and stir a reader’s heart.
Each devotional reading is dated and contains a descriptive title, Scripture verse (KJV), and single-page devotion. The messages are heart stirring, conscience pricking, and soul edifying. A nightly reading from Tozer’s writings closes each day in reverence and communion with our Lord
I really like the organization, the variation of messages, and the way each devotion is presented. The author uses smooth flowing, almost poetic language that I really enjoy. Below is an example from the June 20th reading:
The whole universe is alive with God’s life, and He is no strange or foreign God, but the familiar Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, whose love has for these thousands of years enfolded the sinful race of man.
This book contains powerful messages of wonder, guidance, and wisdom. I plan to purchase Mornings With Tozer, also, for a double daily dose of blessings.
