The author speaks the local language and has interviewed and conversed with hundreds of Afghans, both men and women. She listened to their stories and lived among them. And in the midst of all of that, she found Kingdom responses to the beliefs Afghani Muslims hold to be true.

Riveting and fast paced, In the Land of Blue Burqas depicts sharing the love and truth of Christ with women living in Afghanistan which has been called "the world's most dangerous country in which to be born a woman." These stories are honest and true. The harsh reality of their lives is not sugar-coated and that adds to the impact of the book. Through storytelling the author shows how people who don't know Christ come to see Him, His truth and His beauty. The stories provide insight into how a Jesus-follower brought Jesus' teachings of the Kingdom of God to Afghanistan. They reveal the splendor of Christ, the desire of human hearts, and that precious instance where the two meet.

This is a collection of vignettes tethered together by the real danger that muslim women face in Afghanistan. These are firsthand accounts from the authors experience drawn from living among these women. The reader will see just how revolutionary Christ's message is today, and how radical it was during Christ's lifetime - the present day Afghan cultural attitudes are not unlike they were 2000 years ago.  All of the names of those involved - including Kate's - plus the locations have been changed to protect the participants. Just take a few minutes and read the opening pages. You'll be hooked.

About Ms. Kate McCord
KATE MCCORD is not her real name. To protect her, and the women she talked to, all of the names in the book have been changed-including Kate's. At the pinnacle of a high-powered career, Kate left it all, sold everything and went to Afghanistan to start an NGO with the goal to help Afghani women. She taught herself the local language and served there for over five years. Now she wants you to know the Afghan women she has come to love.

Kate writes in a simple, easy to follow, heartfelt style, giving great insight into a little-understood world. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in knowing more about Afghani women and the role fundamental Islamic beliefs play in their daily lives. http://booksmusicandlife.blogspot.com/2013/01/in-land-of-blue-burqas.html

Blue Burqas is partly a comparison between Christianity & Islam, partly a study of the Afgan culture & partly a call to love our neighbor (& our perceived enemy). The narrative is well written, so that the reader is engrossed in the neighborhood encounters while also learning about the vast differences from our religion & life. Hear her interview on Midday Connection ( www.moodyradio.org/brd_ProgramDetail.aspx?id=91944). http://jamesmirror.com/2013/01/08/in-the-land-of-blue-burqas-book-review/

We are taken on a striking journey into the aouli—the domain of the Afghan family compound—by a remarkable Christian woman. Conversations about marriage, family, and children eventually opened opportunities for conversations of profound spiritual importance. In gentle and respectful ways, McCord repeatedly responds to difficult questions and direct challenges with simple answers. http://thegospelcoalition.org/book-reviews/review/in_the_land_of_blue_burqas

Beautiful book!! Not only a riveting story, but also a insightful model of dialectical apologetics as well as a practical curriculum for Christlikeness--in the most inhospitable environment. May God continue to bless you, Kate.

Her methods of presenting Christian truths can be a model for all followers of Christ—using intelligent examples with a friendly manner to compare Islamic beliefs and Christianity. This is a valuable resource to understand both the goodness and the threats of Islam and to know effective way to converse with Muslims. The book is also an interesting, well-written account of lives in this far-away country. http://geniwhite.typepad.com/
